Glock 19 Buds
The Glock 19 is ideal for a more versatile role due to its reduced dimensions compared to the standard size option. Chambered in 9x19, the G19 has received worldwide recognition from both private and public security agencies. As well as being used as a traditional service pistol, it is ideal for concealment or as a backup weapon.

ETS Glock G19, G26, G18, G17, G19X, G34 and G45 9mm Extended Mag, Smoke Polymer, Gen 2 Floor Plate, 32rdGlock 19 Gen 4s. I got my first Glock 19 Gen 4 in December 2013. I put ~55,000 rounds in less than 2 years and felt much better with a backup. Then in September 2015 I got another Glock 19 Gen 4, this one with "factory" Cerakote (more on that in a minute).
I think the Glock 19 is the perfect pistol: perfect shape, perfect dimensions, perfect capacity, and perfect design efficiency. Or if not the perfect gun,
. Still, no gun is better suited or more responsive to lovingly applied improvements than the Glock.
I continue to shoot my original G19 and currently have 58,000 rounds through it. My new one, now eight months old, has 22,000+ rounds through it. So after spending a lot of time running this gun, mostly in training exercises and concealing for competition, I'm sharing my impressions and learnings here. I hope you find this information useful.

The first and last reason to consider a Glock 19 is reliability. In all 58k rounds of my first G19 I never had a legitimate malfunction cause the gun. My second G19 first had first round feeding issues for a while, mostly due to a careless bad Cerakote job. After a few hundred rounds the problem went away and I have never had another failure with this gun, which I now carry and shoot in competition.
My two Glock 19 Gen4. The original in black on the left and backup, Cerakote model on the right...after 80,000+ rounds through the pair.
Another important reason to consider the G19 is that there are no redundant external controls. Glocks are often criticized for their blocky, unadorned look, but this look is a result of the all-important consideration of removing everything not necessary for shooting a target and changing magazines when empty. The Glock 19's controls are minimized or internalized, resulting in a classic example of deliberate, practical functionality. As a design professional, I can't help but appreciate Glock's design excellence and recommend it on that basis.
I further recommend that you consider this pistol because it completely blurs the line between concealed carry and duty pistol. It is a practical shooter that has good home defense or duty carry capabilities and is suitable for civilian everyday carry.

I enjoy shooting the G19. Having put over 80,000 rounds through it, it is the standard by which I measure all other pistols that shoot. I rarely look at it as shootability and balance vs. Matched in size dimensions.
Most of the 9mm ammo I've shot through the gun has been 115g bullets from Federal, Blazer Brass, Winchester, Freedom Munitions, and Stand 1 Armory, but I've put over 1,000 rounds through the Federal Premium 147-Gridra series. Shok JHP, Federal Premium 124gr HST JHP, Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P GDHP, Hornady Critical Defense 115gr, Hornady Critical Duty 135gr, and Winchester PDXI 124gr +P JHP, and even thousands of $8k performance... .
Here I shoot the Glock 19 in competition. This photo shows it fitted with a beavertail backstrap, which I no longer use.
Like all Glock pistols, the transition of the G19's trigger guard to the grip is quite sharp and especially uncomfortable for the middle finger of a strong hand when shooting. Therefore, I suggest that every Glock pistol should have a Dremel tool on the side and bottom of the trigger guard junction with the grip to easily create a rounded and low profile. There are those who disagree and believe that the G19 or any Glock pistol is fine without a little modification. I personally would never take a Glock that wasn't adjusted like that.

The only errors I experienced while shooting my Glock 19 had nothing to do with the gun itself. With my first G19 (58,000 rounds) the only failures I experienced were directly related to defective aftermarket recoil springs that I foolishly used. Each of them either broke in a short time or sometimes failed to send the slide to full battery. I quickly switched back to the factory springs and have never had any problems since.
My second G19 (22,000 rounds) came with "factory" Cerakote and, to my surprise, included Cerakote inside the slide rail and on the surface of the frame rail. The addition of this coating changed the dimensions, tolerances and coefficient of friction of these critical components. The result was not surprising as in the first 600 rounds I had a few instances of the new magazine failing to feed the first round. After a few hundred rounds, the Cerakot in/rail system has worn down enough to function flawlessly. However, I must warn you against this
Ceracoated (erroneously called "Factory Cerakote") Glock pistols. Lipsey's Cerakote is very well done and is applied only to the slide (never the frame or rail).
Firearm fit and comfort are very personal issues. Even with the palm position on the grip and other caveats (which I'll describe in a moment), I find the Glock 19 to be quite comfortable. The Gen 4's different sized, interchangeable back straps allow for a large number of individual fit options.

The grip angle on a Glock is different than many other pistols. I think the grip angle of the G19 is good, and my training with this grip angle makes sight adjustment automatic (even with eyes closed), but prefer the more vertical grip angle found on some other popular platforms (1911, CZ, etc ...). Another pain point for some shooters is the Glock 19's grip finger back. Personally, I like them because they fit perfectly in my hand. But hand sizes vary, and so will opinions about this grip function. Some people like to polish them, but I would never do that.
The Glock 19 is not "smart" by any means, but it is easy to control when shooting. In fact, it's a soft shooter despite its relatively short and light slide compared to many full-size pistols. I have no problem doing the calculation exercise in less than 1.9 seconds, so the G19 shouldn't present any controllability issues for shooters.
Although compact, the Glock 19 is larger than many custom-built concealed carry pistols. That said, the size poses little to no obstacle to IWB concealment for most people, especially when placed at an angle to the body (at the 4 or 5 o'clock) and in the slung position. I have a Glock 19
