Lwrc Di Review - Using the CTK P3 Ultimate Gun Rest is one of the easiest ways to help with optic selection. (Photo: Sean Curtis/)

Based in Cambridge, Maryland, LVRC International manufactures fine rifles. I have owned an IC DI model for several years now and it is a great example of what a top AR-15 maker is doing at the top of their craft. By the end of this review, I hope you can see why.

IC DI is a direct effect model. This is an important distinction because LVRCI is also known for its piston model AR-15. AR-15 chambered in DI 5.56 NATO and weighs 6.6 lbs. A ribbed barrel makes a great addition to this delicious collection. The 16.1-inch cold-forged barrel features a 1:7 twist and is capped with a protective A2 bird cap. The rail is completely free floating and features M-LOK, 3 KD mounts and a Picatinny rail on top.

The LVRCI has a proprietary DI bolt carrier behind the barrel and this is located on the Monoforge upper. NiCorr coated gas system is medium length. If you are ambidextrous, you will have success with this rifle. From the correct, ambidextrous charging handle to the mag release, fire selector, and bolt release, they display equally well on either the left or right side.

The trigger is stiff and averages 4 pounds, 15 ounces on my Liman Digital Gauge. Being a single stage, there is no movement when you start pushing back, then it rattles. The reset kicks in after about a millimeter of release and is audible and tactile.

The gun is well balanced and doesn't lean too much to one side or the other when I'm holding it. I also love the light weight! Without a bunch of peripherals like lights, bipods, and other "essentials," managing a DI is easy. I've used it before in structure clearing training. We appreciate the light package and several hundred movements during the lesson.

The grip is Magpul MOE, which offers a rubber outer surface for added grip. It's well-angled and hollow, with a storage flap at the bottom for added utility. Since the rail is thin in diameter, most hand sizes can handle it easily. I wish the rail was longer, but most people will have no problem finding a good position for the support arm.

The stock fits the minimalist, weight-saving theme, but it has an important point - above, so the cheek can be well welded. The stock collapses or extends, with a total of six positions to suit the shooter's preferences.

There are several metrics I consider when evaluating an AR-15. One of them is accuracy at given distances, and the other is reliability. To be clear, I don't shoot much beyond 100 yards, so standard MOA works well as a known accuracy measurement for me.

I've had a Vortek Spitfire AR 1x prismatic optic mounted on a DI for a few years now and it fits me perfectly. Even if you don't remember to change the batteries, the engraved grille will always be there. Don't forget to change the batteries regularly, and you can enjoy a very nice illuminated grid in red or green. The grid itself has an outer ring, an inner ring, and a dot right in the middle. It's great for close work.

I see a lot in the normal course of the year. Many of them come and go, and I enjoy every experience as I test, photograph, and then write about them. However, the lady saw this burnished bronze, RSR, DI exclusive and it was love at first sight. (Photo: Sean Curtis/)

Starting at the range, I zeroed in on the CTK Precision Ultimate shooting rest at 25 yards. Balls up to 1 inch are very easy at this distance. Finally we pushed to within 100 yards. My eyesight isn't what it used to be and it was hard to see a small dot on the target with 1x magnification. However, we consistently hit balls under 4 inches at this distance.

The rest of the testing consisted of exercises and the usual changes to the master notes that followed. In terms of reliability, I'm not just looking for firing or ejection faults, but there are some steps you can take other than firing to correct. I haven't had any major malfunctions like a fried tube or double feed. In all, the rifle has seen about 2,000 rounds of ammunition of various brands, the last 500 being 50-grain Federal. There was no heat.

I had two questionable magazines where the bolt did not stay open on the last round. However, rotating these logs solved the problem. Other than that the gun worked flawlessly. The gun got hot after a while, but that's normal with small diameter grips with repeated firing. Recoil is the standard, no-nonsense 5.56 I'm used to, and the aftermarket was easy to maneuver and control.

The LVRCI IC DI is an impressive AR-15 with many proprietary features that contribute to overall performance. The fluted barrel is beautiful and really helps keep the overall weight down. Internal parts, such as the Advanced Bolt Carrier Group, are designed for long-term trouble-free operation. All this, of course, comes at a price.

The MSRP for the IC DI is around $1,747, but I've seen them sell for less online depending on the model and color. Either way, the gun is great and you won't regret buying it. The LVRC IC DI is a quality rifle that will give you years of accurate and reliable service.
